Scheduling: Rehearsal schedules will be posted in the Competition GroupMe and on this website page.
Rehearsals for out-of-town choreographers often take place over the summer. This can be over the course of a few weeks or during just a few hours on a weekend, depending on the choreographer's availability. During the school year, the majority of rehearsals take place on Sunday afternoons. This is because studio space is available and both dancers and teachers have free time. The rest of rehearsals often take place on Thursdays. Rehearsal length varies based on the needs of individual pieces.
Attendance: Attendance at all rehearsals is expected of all competition dancers. However, dancers are allowed a maximum of three excused absences from competition rehearsal per season. Dancers may not miss the competition rehearsal session the weekend before they compete.Absences make rehearsals a hardship for everyone involved, but we do understand that exceptions are occasionally necessary.
Preparedness: Dancers are expected to show up at rehearsals knowing their choreography (after it is taught). This is so that rehearsals can run efficiently, teachers do not have to take time re-teaching, and so that students can get the most out of their rehearsal time. We take videos at the end of each rehearsal session so that students can review on their own time. Dancers will also have copies of all their music via Google Drive. If a dancer does not know their choreography because they did not go over it at home, they may be asked to step out of rehearsal and return once it's learned. If this occurs with a soloist, their rehearsal for the day may be cancelled. Time is limited and we expect dancers to be prepared and behave professionally.
Attire: Dancers should wear fitted clothing that makes them feel comfortable and confident. This is so teachers can easily see lines and alignment. Sometimes students will be asked to dress in all black for a rehearsal, which will be announced at the rehearsal prior. Dancers should always have the proper shoes for the piece they are rehearsing with them. Hair should be tied back and away from the face, and bulky jewelry should be removed for safety reasons. Students should be cognizant of hygiene and wear deodorant at all times during rehearsals and class.
