CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

BALLET:  This class ranges from beginning to advanced levels, including classes for adults. The class focuses on ballet technique, including positions, barre, and floor work. Dancers will learn how to present themselves on stage with classic technique. Ballet is offered for ages 5 and older.

TAP:  A class working to build rhythm in dancers with classical tap technique. This class focuses on teaching tap technique, performance, and rhythm and musicality. Tap is offered for ages 5 and older.

JAZZ:  An upbeat and fun class that works to build style in dancers through musicality and technique. In jazz class, students learn weight and directional change, isolation, turns, kicks, leaps, and performance. Ballet experience is recommended before taking a jazz class, but  there are classes for beginners through advanced. Jazz is offered for ages 7 and older.


CONTEMPORARY/LYRICAL:  Expressive classes that incorporate ballet and jazz technique to create emotional movement. This class includes focuses on technique, using the music, short combinations, and improvisation. These styles are now offered for ages 7 and older.

MODERN:  This is a classical style that uses techniques from Cunningham, Horton, and Graham, among others. Ballet technique is imperative to modern dance. Lines are crucial to these stylistic movements. Classes are available to beginners who are 12+, advanced dancers, and adults. 

LEAPS/TURNS:  Goals of this class are to increase strength and range of motion, and to improve jumps, leaps, and turns. Previous jazz and/or ballet experience are required. Students must have two years of dance experience for Level 1 and four years of dance experience for Level 2. 

HIP-HOP:  A popular style that is funky and upbeat. Hip-Hop changes with the social times but continues on with a technical base. Dancers learn elements like isolations and popping. An important piece of learning this style is already having an established dance technique, so at least one year of jazz is recommended before taking. Hip-Hop is offered for ages 7 and older.

LAUNCH: A pre-competition prep class designed to take young students' technique to the next level. Previous dance experience is highly recommended. Open to ages 5+.

TWINKLE TOES:  A 30-minute class for ages 2-3. This is a pre-Creative Movement class where students will learn basic ballet positions and coordination while developing their imagination and motor skills. This class does NOT perform in any recitals. 

**Twinkle Movement: A combination between Twinkle Toes and Creative Movement decided to suit the needs of the students best determined by the instructor depending on enrollment

CREATIVE MOVEMENT:  A 45-minute class for ages 3-5 in which students learn basic ballet positions and movements. Dancers work on coordination, memory, and following directions in a classroom setting. This class gets to perform at the Holiday Concert and the annual Spring Recital.

KINDERDANCE I:  A 60-minute class consisting of 30 minutes of ballet followed by 30 minutes of tap. This class is for age four with 1 year of Creative Movement and for new students ages five to six. This class performs in both the Holiday  Concert and the annual Spring Recital.  

KINDERDANCE II:  Similar to Kinderdance 1, but at a faster pace and higher skill level. This class is for dancers ages
​5-6 who have had at least one whole year of Kinderdance 1. 


BODY TONING (Teens/Adults):  This class aims at building/toning muscle through body weight exercises as well as exercises with equipment (light weights, resistance bands, etc.). Sole focus on your core section with modifications available for any level.
