Who we are, what we do, and what is expected of us: The Dancearts Competition Team is open to dancers ages eight to eighteen. As a Competition Dancer, dancers have the opportunity to experience rehearsals and performances at a more professional level. It is important that dancers' conduct and attitude during classes and rehearsals is positive and respectful. This would also be expected in your relationship with fellow dancers and the teachers and choreographers that you work with at the studio and/or any dance setting. As a Competition Dancer, dancers represent Dancearts and set an example for the rest of our Dancearts students.
Dancers must be enrolled in, and attending, a ballet class for the entire school year at Dancearts or Halcyone Perlman School of Dance (also in Columbia).
Dancers must be enrolled in, and attending, a technique class for the entire year that relates to the dance style of the competition piece for which you were chosen. Three un-excused absences from a technique class will result in removal from the competition piece.
Summer Technique Workshops at Dancearts are required for all Competition Dancers.
Rehearsals The rehearsal/choreography sessions will involve a minimum of 1 hour per week for each dance. Attendance at all rehearsals is required and expected of all the dancers. Absences make rehearsals a hardship for everyone involved.
