Ballet: This class ranges from beginning to advanced, including classes for adults. It focuses on ballet positions, technique, posture, barre, and floor work. Dancers will learn how to present themselves on stage with classic technique in walking, jumping, turning, and leaping.
Tap: A class working to build rhythm in dancers with classical tap technique. This class focuses on teaching the steps and rhythms and the musicality of those fundamentals.
Jazz: An upbeat and fun class that works to build style in dancers through musicality and technique. Jazz class works on progressing through turns, kicks, leaps, and performance. Ballet experience is recommended before taking a jazz class, but there are classes for beginners through advanced.
Modern: This is a classical style that uses techniques from Cunningham, Horton, and Graham, among others. Ballet technique is imperative to modern dance. Lines are crucial to these stylistic movements. They are available to beginners who are 12+, advanced dancers, and adults.
Lyrical: An expressive class that puts together ballet and jazz techniques to create mature and emotional movements. Lyrical also focuses on the music and what can be taken from it.
Stretch & Leap/Strength & Turn: These classes teach students how to stretch properly to improve flexibility, strengthen the body, and focus on the core to improve and perfect turns, as well as to gain control of the body. Students must have 2 years of dance experience to be in Level 1 and 4 years of dance experience to be in Level 2.
Hip Hop: A popular style that is funky and upbeat. Hip Hop changes with the social times but continues on with a technical base. Dancers learn different elements like isolations and popping. An important piece of learning this style is already having an established dance technique, so at least one year of jazz is recommended before taking.
Irish: A fun, unique opportunity to learn traditional Irish technique. Level 1 is for 9-13 year-olds and Level 2 is for dancers 14+. Students must have at least 1 year of experience in ballet or jazz.
Twinkle Toes: A 30 minute class for 2-3 year-olds. This is a pre-Creative Movement class where students will learn basic ballet positions and coordination while developing their imagination and motor skills. This class does NOT perform in any concerts.
Creative Movement: A 45 minute class for 3-5 year olds where they will learn basic ballet positions and movements. They work on coordination, memory, and following directions in a classroom setting. This class gets to perform at the Holiday Concert and the annual Spring Recital.
Kinderdance 1: A 60 minute class consisting of 30 minutes of ballet followed by 30 minutes of tap. This class is for 4 year-olds with 1 year of Creative Movement experience and for new 5-6 year-olds. This class gets to perform in both the Holiday and Spring Recitals.
Kinderdance 2: The same class as Kinderdance 1, but at a faster pace and higher skill level. This class is for 5-6 year-olds who have had at least one whole year of Kinderdance 1.
