2013 Competition Checklist Documents

Who We Are, What We Do & What Is Expected of Us
The Dancearts Competition Team is open to Junior and Senior Dancearts dancers, ages 8 years and older. As a Competition Dancer you have the opportunity to experience rehearsals and performances at a more professional level. It is important that your conduct and attitude during classes and rehearsals be positive and respectful. This would also be expected in your relationship with fellow dancers as well as the teachers and choreographers you work with. As a Competition Dancer, you represent Dancearts and set an example for the rest of our dancers.

You must be enrolled in, and attending, a Ballet class (for the entire school year) at Dancearts or Halcyone Perlman School of Dance (also in Columbia).

You must be enrolled in, and attending, a technique class (for the entire year) that relates to the dance style of the competition piece you were chosen for. Five absences from a technique class will result in removal from the competition piece.

Summer Dance Intensive Camp is also required for all Competition Dancers.

Rehearsals
The rehearsal/choreography sessions will involve a minimum of 20 hours of time per dance. Rehearsals are usually scheduled on weekends. If you are not available to rehearse many weekends, you should reconsider.

You are required to be at all rehearsals, and you will be expected to practice your dances on your own. Absences make rehearsals a hardship for everyone involved.

Three unexcused absences from rehearsal will result in dismissal from the Competition Dance Team.

Audition
All Competition Dancers are chosen by audition. Dancers must be able to perform at an intermediate/advanced level of JAZZ, TAP, BALLET or MODERN. You do not need to be proficient in all dance forms.

Auditions for 2013-2014 Team are Monday, June 3rd 5:30pm-7:30pm
Any dancers chosen for competition will be given a discount of 25% off on classes for the competition year.
